Huw Dixon

I started to write this in August 2024 using Sibelius notation under the working title “August Song”. The final Pro-tools version dates to 7^th May 2025.  The song always had a bit of a disco feel right from the start, and it kind of developed. I imagined the music depicting the “outer” image of discotheque from the eyes of the dancer shifting in sections to the “inner” mind of the dancer themself.  Think of a disco ball reflecting light.  Musically it is based on a simple bass line and four chords alternating with a quasi-chorus section. These sections are alternated and juxtaposed with different elements: guitar and piano solos, brass statements, marcato drums etc. The excitement is kept up by the rapid mallets/glockenspiel ostinato.  The ending shifts to 5/4 and the strings of the BBC philharmonic doing arpeggios over the drums beating the “Mars” rhythm of Gustav Holst.   The title is difficult, because “disco” has been used so often. I am a great fan of Funkadelic, and love their “Undisco kid”: so I combine the two words to get Disco Un-Disco.  It also has the neat acronym “Dud” and I put in the hyphen because in searches there are a lot of Spanish songs with “Un Disco” in the title, such as “Un Disco Mas”. The joys of coming up unique with song titles in 2025!

The song was released on 23rd December 2025, and I did a video using videos of my daughter Clare dancing and some videos provided by my son Neil (one of the House music duo Wheatline).  The video is on my Huw Dixon YouTube channel, becuase at that time Dr Hu 2 had not become a YouTube artist.
