Huw Dixon

This is one of the first pieces I wrote in Sibelius and produced in Avid Pro Tools. The composition started in late 2023 after attending a Ludovico Einaudi concert in Cardiff. I thought if he can make such beautiful compositions out of such simple chords why don’t I have a try. It started off as a simple piano piece (working title “Piano Chords”) and evolved from there. I also was developing my writing for drums in 12/8.  I just started improvising and the first section emerged. I then thought I could merge what I had written with the famous Richard Strauss song, “Morgen!” (which means “Tomorrow!”). I took his piano and voice parts largely unchanged but revoiced them for the instruments I was using.  The form of the piece is ternary (A-B-A) with a coda. The A is the “simple chord” bit, the B is the Strauss song. The return of A is added to with the duet of the two saxophones that joined in B for the Strauss. The piece climaxes at the end of A with a loud noise followed by a return of the wonderful Strauss chord progression on organ followed by the Coda (partly inspired by the Dr Who title music, since I was watching the old black and white Dr Who series on the BBC). This was the result. The composition was completed in Early 2024. I produced the song in 2024, but revisited it in 2026 to release it on via distrokid. The composition is thus joint Dixon and Strauss.

The title comes from the Strauss song (Tomorrow), plus the theme of the Lyrics to the Song (the lovers waiting to be together), plus the fact that the song is myself and Richard “together” as composers.
